At last,after so many years

At last, after so many years, I have started learning typing, using a tutor s/w. Having been a comp user for more than 4 years, i can type ok, at say, 50 wpm,but i dont blind type, AND i make lots of errors compared to good typists. Recently I read about my brother blind typing and about him ranting about his typing classes. Well, U know what sibling rivalry can do, (in my case its always a bit constructive, as he always stays a bit ahead of my, much to my $^%&*) But jokes apart, I have been wanting to type faster for quite sometime, ans this was just the catalyst i needed. Right now I can blind type half the keyboard at 25 wpm!!. I hope to get to 60 within a couple of weeks!! Lets hope

Hey, i can actually do 258wpm, on account of, the s/w has a bug-for any key , if i keep typing space, it takes it to be the right key( i AM good at finding mistakes) so i can reach 258 like this ) But that really wont help, just an interesting fact

Chennai Floods

Bhagwaan Detha Hai Tho Chapad Phad Ke Dhetha Hai(The author is not responsibe for any soelling mistakes in that one, on account of, all the Hindi I have learned is in CBSE books, and have had very less chance to interact with ppl who really talk Hindi!!) Chennai is floating in water, as is the rest of Tamil Nadu, and guess what, my house roof is leaking(i hear that it is not unusual in newly built houses) But my fate apart, a lot of people, (as usual the poor get affected) are suffering seriously, (as for myself, i live in the first floor, and the inconvenience i will have is when i try to reach my college tomo for the sem exams, thru flood and mostly, without trains running, trains being the primary transport in Chennai ) and a lot of them are dying because of cold, flooding, electrocution. Mainly because there is no proper water harvesting and flood draining system in Chennai , tho the current Govt, is doing something concrete to tackle this, the inherent infrastructure is bad, in effect killing this lot. Take sometime to mourn them, at worst, and we must try to do something about this infrastructure, wherever we can

The Toast's Heavier Side

So, the festive season of Deeps is here, and ppl are supposed to be having fun, and stuff. But I, the hyperbola, already on my path towards infinity, did not find bursting crackers very interesting.
On the other hand, it seems I am half way between the start and end, so, I did enjoy watching others crack them up, mainly because I found that bursting them myself is too much work for my languid body's ecosystem. SO, coming back to the point, the only two times i enjoyed a lot were when i was watching Richie Rich on Pogo,(which the Cable operator didn't seem to like, and so, cut it off at the climax) and when i was watching these sticks of cardboard stuffed with Lead and Cadmium compounds go Kaboom(hope i got the chemistry right)Of course, logically, i must have enjoyed my short nap(of only 2 hours long) today morning,i.e Deeps morn but i cannot be sure, on account of , I was sleeping when i was taking that nap!
        But I am digressing from the topic,(another funny thing, i was wanting to ask bloggers why they use this std. sentence very often , and here i am, using it as a tool to rant on random things without being censured or critricised upon ;))
What does all this have to do with the Toast or its heavier side ,by which i mean the buttered part which always has the habit of hitting the ground when the toast is dropped, due to your bad luck or its higher weight, as u wish to take it .
            So, here i was in my mottai maadi ,wathcing these things bursting into heaven, and i was stading precariously on the tank,which had no lid, (today's speciality),so that i cudn't turn as i please.
And weirdly, all the better fireworks seemed to be blasting off behind my back. When i turned in that direction, hoping for the trend to change, well, the crackers thought poor me was waiting for them in the original direction, and went there, ufly for me!
            All right, I am a math geek, so i thought, probability must hold, since the distributions of ppl bursting cracks around me was fairly equal conc spherically, if i hold my position for long enough ,the good ones are bound to come to my side, but none came, and so turn i did, but then, math never failed, and the laws of probability did hold, and the good ones went off towards my back!
And thus did the hyper hyperbola go round and round like you know what, trying to catch his back

Moral:???????????????????????????? guys out there , try and get a good moral from this story, and I'll know that u have Truly mastered the art of joblessness, like the author who wrote this rantoramble!!!

The IIPM Controversy

Recently, the youth magazine JAM, edited by Rashmi Bansal, featured an article on IIPM, exposing the various supposedly false claims made by the IIPMs in their ads in various Indian Dailies. I donot know if these claims from either side are true(IIPM claims it is better than IIM's in most fields, and has made false claims about its infrastructure: link)
But then, I started reading a lot of stuff that definitely made me take the side of JAM and the other bloggers who have raised their voices against IIPM)
1)The female was personally attacked be a dead lot of IIPM studs and ex-studs: THe least it does is to show me what IIPM cultivates(read on and u'll kno not to expect anything better from an institute like this) and also how stupid the ppl at IIPM are.JAM's article in tself cud not have gathered so much of a public response if those dum-heads had kept shut;now IIPM had become the most searched link in technorati(dunt remember the day) and wikipedia now has an article on IIPM, proving how stupid it is;
More importantly, this sort of behaviour is totally unwarranted, and outright indecent, well, if this is how IIPM teaches people to manage problems, the "Management Institute" must be what it is accused to be!

2)IIPM's legal cell has issued legal notices (by e-mail!!!) against Gaurav Sabnis,who linked to Rashmi's article and Varna , who posted on it(for 175 Crores!;gimme a break, on the basis of (also) lost relations (indeed!))
(Look at these here. This sort of behaviour, while showing its stupidity as explained above, is also very detrimental to the concept of free speech and expression. IIPM's actions are both ridiculous and indicate in eveyr sense, a lack of truth in their activities, Just imagine, a post like that (of Rashmi's) againstt an IIM would have looked like the dog barking at the sun ,and IIM would have been unconcerned enuf, not to notice!

Of a Flat World And China's Weight

I am currently reading this book:"The Worls Is Flat" By Thomas Friedman. The book is all about how globalisation is spreading fast , and as a result, the world is getting flatter(in a figure of speech). As the guy rightly points out, India is not the only market for outsourcing. China is catching up , and fast. Besides, China has more manpower and better undergrad, tech colleges than India(as good as US, almost). Their only disadv. is English, and once they catch up on that, well, no one can really stop them , not even US. So, watch out guys, at the current rate, My prediction is that China is going to eat up India and fast.....(of course, some of these ideas are not my own , a part of the credit goes to Srivatsan, my bro)
But the crust of the matter is, China is remedying its weakness-English, and if India doesn't make up on its own weaknesses-corruption and lack of sound funda education, we r in serious trouble, so watch out!

So, this week, i've been doing completely different things.I had exams for which I hadnt studied, and have done the first 2 of seven with minimal prep....so , u sld be wondering what the unusual part is, since this is pretty normal in any student's life....
the unusual part is...my bro came home for a week, as an extension of official trip(of course, he was on leave for this week..), and he had these 2 cool books
Don't Think Of An Elephant, by George Lakoff
The World Is Flat (or sthing like that) by Tom Friedman
(i'm too lazy to link them, check them on wiki or google, if u r interested)
so, basically, the point is, i wudn.t have been reading books on exam week, if i dint kno that i wont have another chance in near future, if i let it go now.
And so the Hyperbola embarked on a great journey into Lakoff's brain-waves, and found it to be a pretty insightful a/c of the american political system's working..
of course, the book is biased all right, but u can always read the book and takre only the facts,
Framing, is his key concept..
Framing of language(if u dint kno , he is a famous cognitive scientist) and what an a/c of framing.

the other one, i am reading, its about globalisation......and how the world is being flattened by its forces....
will write on it some other day..
and yeah, i went to mahabalipuram and took a lot of pics.
mebbe ill flickr it, if i feel like getting an a/c,...
so, thats that, try reading Lakoff, and if uve already read it, gimme ur views on the book

Tamil : Where should it be put?

Recently,(as is usual in my college) I was made to sit thgough a seminar, in which I had no interest whatsoever, -a Tamil Mandram inaugs(for those of u who dont kno what mandram is, it means Association, and for those of u who dont kno tamil , well, welcome to the club)
So there I was sitting thru a drab seminar with all these guys who hog the limelite, talking in pure tamil that they never used b4 in the first place, and never will use again till another such eye-wash.
There was a lot of tqalk abt not letting tamil die, and its resurrection and stuff, which started me thinking, -if tamil is really such a great language, why did it die, and now that its dying, shld u really try and resurrect it?
whats the point in hanging on to something that people dont give priority to? Is it not a better option to let it go and move on to something better, if u feel this is not good enuf? id that not the basis of progres?
well, yet another ,post that is totally disjoint from the purpose of this blog which is what??

P.S: today, i found out that my college chairman pachamuthu is not such a huge dunce after all, he is stupid only when talking in english, he is quite a good orator in tamil
and also, the princi, Mr,Discipline sucks, he hasn't learnt after all these yrs not to drool when sleeping on stage!

The "Fine" college

Did u ever hear about the machines that gave you money everytime it absconded?
Well, looks like my college has devised exactly such a maxhine(or rather, my department)
Guess what? everytime a student is absent , he/she has to pay 200 bucks to college! man, my depts. got some 400 minting machines!
The funny part is that there is a rule that states u need to have a minimum of 75% attendance ,below which, u get fined. Now this is an example of the 180+ IQ of my department(the whole college is of the same nature) authorities, giving us such conflicting rules.
Of course, no one's bothering about all this, coz, well, u cannot always avert fever , and if that gets too hackneyed, u can always come up with a touch of dyssentry or dehydration, and all this will be let off the hook, because of the little (exaggerating,plz,i dont kno a better word, miniscule,probably) common sense that is left in all Class Incharges, who are not yet doltish enough to become HOD's . Ofcourse, when on of them becomes a better nincompoop, he will be promoted to HOD (obviously)
Tune in again for great news about great intellects of earth
PS :about 13 ppl per class are going to have fever or dyssentry tomorrow because of aavani avittam( a hindu ritual /function)

???LAB

Recently, Ive been using two s/ws Matlab and Scilab extensively.
I came across matlab first, (suggested by Dr.Srikanth) and then Matlab.
Both are pretty good and powerful tools and fun to work with,what with all the crazy plots u can make with them.Also, both are prety similar
But I found working with Matlab easier, not because it is more user-friendly or anything, but bcos of the set of cooler demos its got. I found the demos that Matlab has to be a lot better than Scilab demos
BUT,(a big but) u get scilab for free(0.00$ only) unlike matlab which is supposed to cost loads.

what a trade off.

i think it would be better if someone jus learns matlab using these tuts from some source like schools and then start using Scilab (they are a lot similar to work with) or , of course, u cud get matlab like I DID;)
or, id there more to matlab than meets the eye of this novice user?

Manmohan Singh apologises

I read in BBC 's feed that Manmohan Singh apologised for anti -Sikh riots!
I have taken to reading all news on my RSS feed by-the-way.
Imagine his postion, him being a sikh and all that. Doesnt this sound really ironic
A sikh having to apologise for Anti-sikh riots that happened in 1984, jus coz he is today's PM.

SO what do u think, is this one of the ironies of life , or is there a deeper meaning to this

After two unsuccessful attempts at blogging, (I invariabyly ended up forgetting where I'd blogged) I have started this one with more serious intentions. I thought it would form a good place to chronicle my works, apart from being a forum for discussion, and more importantly , to vent all my bottled up thoughts.
Lets jus hope I don't play absent-minded prof again.
